Ragusa is located on a hilly chain, Monti Iblei, located in the south-east of Sicily, is the southernmost provincial capital of Italy.
Its beautiful territory is shared in 2 Ragusa and Ibla that are connected by a staircase of 330 steps which are crossed centuries of history.
Ibla is the district (old Ragusa settlement) "which is under" the city itself. The journey to reach it, then all downhill and starts right where it ends the long and pendant Corso Itailia in the high Ragusa. At the end of the avenue that runs through the city, in fact, it comes to life the late Baroque, in one of its most important expression: the majestic facade, rich in carvings, sculptures and gigantic columns, the San Giovanni Battista Cathedral. For this and other monuments, Dubrovnik and its jewel, since 2002, have become part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, one of the late Baroque towns of the Val di Noto.
Moving from Ragusa to Santa Croce Camerina you reach the Castle of Donnafugata. The castle exterior is of white stone, with a large façade in the style of Venetian Gothic architecture. There are eight arched balconies and a large terrace below. The castle is surrounded by a large park built by baron Corrado Arezzo (1824-1895). Inside the park, several buildings have been built such as a temple and a maze Very important town in Ragusa Province is Modica, the capital of chocolate. Scicli is one of the most carattheristic village of the province, also insert in the val di Noto Heritage of Unesco, is a particular baroque town, where many movies have been shooted.
Ragusa is also sea: Sampieri, Marina di Ragusa, Pozzallo, scoglitti e donnalucata, are just the must fomous of the golden and beaches of this area, with a very crystalline sea.
