Among other ancient treasures of the city of Syracuse there is the so-called "Ear of Dionysius." The Ear of Dionysius is an artificial cave, funnel-shaped, carved into the limestone, with a singular form, vaguely similar to an ear. The cave is equipped with exceptional acoustic properties, sounds are amplified up to 16 times. Siracusa is fomous also for the beautiful island of Ortigia, the oldest part of the city, where there is the fonte Aretusa, the temple of Apollo, Piazza Duomo with its beautiful cathedral built on the temple of Athena.
