The culture is breathed in every step in Sicily, but there is a place in which the Greeks have left their indelible traces, and accompanied by the wonderful gifts of nature becomes an enchanted place where it seems to be in a direct temporal gap in 'antiquities. This place is Syracuse.
The first leg of the tour, always accompanied by an experienced guide, provides for the archaeological park of the Neapolis that has an extension of 240,000 mq. host some of the most classical monuments of Greek and Roman Syracuse.
The Greek Theatre, rebuilt built by King Ierone II around V a.c. century, is the largest of Sicily and one of the largest of the entire Greek world and in May you can see there, on the sunset, the famous tragedies of Syracuse.
Among other ancient treasures of the city of Syracuse there is the so-called "Ear of Dionysius." The Ear of Dionysius is an artificial cave, funnel-shaped, carved into the limestone, with a singular form, vaguely similar to an ear. The cave is equipped with exceptional acoustic properties, sounds are amplified up to 16 times.
After this visit to the strictly archaeological area, you will get the beautiful island of Ortigia, the oldest part of the city, where after a lunch in one of its traditional restaurants, you can visit the fonte Aretusa, the temple of Apollo, Piazza Duomo with its beautiful cathedral built on the temple of Athena. A short walk up to the castle of Maniace, to enjoy the sea views in this spectacular natural and historical context will be the end of this visit where your car will take you back to your accommodation.
